Turkish Beef Stew

Last September 2015, I went to Turkey (Goreme, Cappadocia, Pamukkale and Istanbul), before heading there I already made some research of things to do, activities to try and more importantly food to eat! We didn’t really had too much time to explore the food corners of Turkey, but I sure did ate some good food there. One of the first good food I had was their Turkish Beef Stew, it was cooked in a clay pot with all the fresh ingredients. (For more information about my Turkey trip please visit: )

Yesterday afternoon I remember that today was “Beef day” at home (I normally schedule our menu for the week). I had a kilogram of Beef meat at home, and I didn’t quite know what to cook. All of a sudden I remembered the Turkish Beef Stew, Kid you not my mouth remembered how it tasted the moment I saw the pictures online. So I did some research, and found this recipe online. I tried my best to get the taste, and I did my best to get the freshest ingredients for this recipe. I knew I wanted my family to have a great meal, I knew I wanted them to have a taste of Turkey.

So I went to the grocery and bought the freshest ingredients for my “Turkish Beef Stew”. Can you believe that I spent less than AED. 50.00 ($13.50) to feed 6 adults for this dish? Believe it or not, this is one of the easiest dish to prepare! Not to mention it is really good, my brother kept on telling me how delicious it smelled while I was still cooking. The below recipe though is good for 2-3 people.

Let’s start cooking!

What you’ll need:

500g of Beef (Preferably the meat part with some fats on – Slice thinly)

1 piece White Onion (Peeled and sliced thinly)

2 Red Bell Peppers (Cubed)

2 Green Bell Peppers (Cubed)

1 Pack of fresh mushrooms (Sliced thinly)

2 Tbsp. of Tomato Paste

2 Pieces Tomatoes (seeded and sliced the same way as the onion)

2 Tbsp. of Paprika

2 Cups hot water

1/4 Cup Olive oil

Salt and Pepper

Oh, by the way a pressure cooker would come in handy for this Recipe!

Lets get it on!

1.) Prepare your beef, add a pinch or two of salt and pepper.

2.) In medium heat, and the olive oil to your pressure cooker/pot.

3.) Once hot, cook the beef until it turns a little brown.

4.) Add the tomato paste and paprika, then cook for another 5 minutes.

5.) Add the 2 cups of hot water

6.) Put the lid on and start pressuring!! (20 minutes max!)

7.) Release the pressure (Careful!)

8.) Add the onion, mushrooms and bell peppers. Cook on medium heat until softened.

9.) Add the tomato and stir once in a while.

10.) Once the tomato’s has softened, add salt and pepper to taste.

11.) Turn the heat to low and keep on cooking for 10 minutes then serve!

This dish goes well with some pilaf rice, plain white rice or even just with bread!  Try this recipe and let me know if you liked it! My family did and I’m pretty sure yours will too.
